Standing along Bernardino Street in Guadalupe Viejo, Makati City, the Nuestra Señora de Gracia Parish is more than a landmark—it is a testament to centuries of faith, endurance, and quiet devotion. Built by the Augustinians in the early 1600s, this Baroque-style church has weathered wars, earthquakes, and time itself.

What many people don’t realize is that this church also played a unique role in history. According to the historical marker installed by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP), the Guadalupe sanctuary once served as a refuge for the Chinese community after the 1639 uprising. It became a haven of faith for those seeking peace and safety—an early sign of how this sacred ground embraced people of all backgrounds.
Today, I’m grateful to have played a small part in preserving its legacy—by crafting the church’s new signage, designed to honor the dignity and timeless beauty of the parish. Installed with care and respect, it stands not as an advertisement but as a marker of continuity—a humble contribution to a site that has carried the faith of countless generations.
In a city that changes by the minute, Nuestra Señora de Gracia remains unmoved—a reminder that some things, especially faith and history, are meant to endure.
